NOLA Day 3!

Our final day of work began at Galilee Baptist Church in the 9th Ward.  Galilee Baptist Church was the place that originally brought FBC Athens to New Orleans 5 years ago.  In 2006, four different teams helped to repair the church and it became one of the very first operational churches in the 9th Ward after Hurricane Katrina.  During the spring break trip 5 years ago, our team painted the iron fence that surrounds the church property and restriped the parking lot.  In 2011, we renewed these two painting projects and repainted the fence and the parking lot.  Our students worked 5 solid hours in the hot, humid NOLA sun but they knocked it out!

After lunch, we made our way back to the Irish Channel neighborhood and the New Orleans Christian Life Center.  One team painted the newly installed drop ceiling grid, another team began work on cleaning up all of the debris that had been removed from the building, another team went out to meet up with kids one last time, and another team made snowballs.  By 6pm, our team was covered in sweat, but the work had been completed.  We celebrated our time together with some NOLA food, and then the interns led a group reflection time.

I am so proud of our students and all of their hard work.  They worked in the heat, stayed flexible when plans changed, showed love to many different people, and were an absolute blast to be around.
